MOORE TOWN MARROONS
From your accommodation venue in Port Antonio, you are also welcome to join one of our day-tours/excursions to the Maroon Village of Moore Town. Enjoy the twirling roads as you clime through the hills and valleys as you head south into the Rio Grande Valley. From the hill-side roads, you will have beautiful views of the banana plantations on the plains located on the opposite side of the Rio Grande. Have a clear view and learn about Pumpkin Hill or Watch Hill which you will learn more about on the tour.
In Moore Town you will have a chance to sit and talk with the Colonel of the Moore Town Maroons. Get in depth history about the female leader of these courageous people and their island-wide allies. Visit bump grave which holds Nanny's shrine before venturing on a short hike to Nanny's pot, an area which was used by the Maroon Heroin Nanny, to trap several British Soldiers while they were in pursuit of Maroon Warriors. Today this area is an attraction known as Nanny's Waterfalls. Here one can have a refreshing swim before hiking back to the village square.
