OCHO RIOS

Ocho Rios is located in the parish of Saint Ann on the north coast of Jamaica.  Many believe that Christopher Columbus first set foot on the land in Ocho Rios.  It is also said and strongly maintained that it is Discovery Bay that the former World explorer first landed in Jamaica.  However, the first landing on Jamaica by Christopher Columbus was in the river mouth of Rio Bueno, this river that borders the parishes of Saint Ann and Trelawney.  Although he made many stops at different spots along the Jamaican coast, it was very long after his arrival that he actually got to Ocho Rios, while travelling eastwards.  At that point, he had counted eight rivers; and so, the village inherited the name, Ocho Rios.

This booming seaside town, "Ocho Rios," is known to be one of Jamaica's fastest grown and still growing towns, within the past fifty (50) years.  During the period mentioned, this booming north coast resort town as made a landmark for itself by hosting many mega cruise ships from various large cruise shipping companies, develop a large number holiday resorts, after being a small fishing village since the recording of Jamaica's history.  Just before Ocho Rios' tourism development, this fast-pace sea-side town was only known for exporting bauxite during late 1950s into the early years of the 1970s.  During this period small hotels and other guest homes could be found within the town and other nearby areas, east and west along coast.

In the early 1980s, cruise-shipping was introduced to the town of Ocho Rios.  In a short period of time the small town had grown to be one of Jamaica's most booming tourist destinations and highly visited town for Jamaicans on excursions relating schools, churches and other recreational groups.  Similar to other resort areas of Jamaica such as KingstonMontego BayNegril and Port Antonio, Ocho Rios is known for its luxurious accommodation venues.  Although "luxurious accommodation venues" are mentioned, persons visiting this resort town can find affordable accommodation facilities to match their budget.  If you are thinking of visiting Jamaica and for any reason you decide on taking some time or your whole holiday period in Ocho Rios, you are welcome to contact Attractions Link Tourism Services regarding booking your accommodation in Ocho Rios.
