OCHO RIOS
Ocho Rios is located in the parish of Saint Ann on the north coast of Jamaica. Many believe that Christopher Columbus first set foot on the land in Ocho Rios. It is also said and strongly maintained that it is Discovery Bay that the former World explorer first landed in Jamaica. However, the first landing on Jamaica by Christopher Columbus was in the river mouth of Rio Bueno, this river that borders the parishes of Saint Ann and Trelawney. Although he made many stops at different spots along the Jamaican coast, it was very long after his arrival that he actually got to Ocho Rios, while travelling eastwards. At that point, he had counted eight rivers; and so, the village inherited the name, Ocho Rios.
